The concentration of propionic acid is measured at a 50 cm depth in the feed. A high concentration gives extra power to the combination of esters and propionic acid. The concentration of esterified propionic acid remains more stable during the storage period. Propionic acid evaporates earlier. Esters provide a more gradual release of propionic acid, which protects the grain longer.
