Akestra plastic cup

rPET in hotfill packaging applications: it’s possible.

Akestra™ is an innovative plastic that can be layered onto recycled PET, providing added heat resistance, without interfering in the PET transparent tray to recycling stream. This makes it an excellent alternative to traditional and hard to recycle materials such as polystyrene.

It also addresses the lack of food grade recycled polypropylene used for hot fill food packaging and hot food & beverage packaging, with the added benefit of high post-consumer recycled (PCR) content and being recyclable at scale.

This innovation elevates the aesthetic and performance qualities of rPET to match those of virgin plastics. It’s not just technically advanced. It’s regulation-ready, visually premium, and future-proof.

Engineered for tomorrow’s circular packaging

Each year, Europe sees around 24 million tons of plastics incinerated, releasing nearly 70 million tons of CO₂ into the atmosphere. Regulatory measures, including the EU's Packaging and Packaging Waste regulation and the Single-use Plastic Directive, underscore the urgent need for innovative solutions.

Akestra™ leads the way in this shift by enabling a solution for circular hotfill food packaging with efficient greenhouse gas (GHG) emission reductions.
