Five ways Capa™ can improve running shoes

As any runner can tell you, the key to a good shoe is to be light, flexible and comfortable, while offering good support and shock absorption. At the same time, shoes also need the strength and resilience to withstand constant impact with the ground. When used in polyurethane systems for running shoes, Capa™ can contribute a number of qualities to improve overall durability and quality. Here are the five key benefits of using Capa™ compared with standard polyesters.

  1. Abrasion resistance


    The base of a running shoe is in constant contact with the ground, gradually abrading away material until it wears through. However, by incorporating Capa™ into the backbone of the elastomer, abrasion resistance can be enhanced, improving the overall long-term durability of the shoe. In short, this means your shoes will last longer.

  2. Flex fatigue 


    Good running shoes need to be flexible while still maintaining their shape and form, particularly in the middle of the shoe, which is constantly bending as you run or walk. Too much bending can cause the elastomer to crack, but Capa™ helps improve resistance to cracking. 

  3. Water resistance


    All shoe-based material will at some point be subjected to water and moisture and eventually break down as a result. Capa™ improves water resistance and even further improves the durability of the shoe.

  4. Resilience


    Compared to standard polyesters, Capa™ will improve resilience by 10–20 per cent. It can be used in any several parts of the running shoe to improve elasticity and spring, all for the ultimate running experience. 


  5. Density


    Capa™ is three to four per cent less dense than standard polyesters, which means lighter shoes can be produced from the same moulds. This is particularly beneficial for running shoes and trainers, as it means lighter, springier footwear.
