A new solution using Perstorp BEPD now offers formulators an opportunity to create highly flexible and durable coil coatings. Structurally BEPD is similar to Neo, the diol widely used for producing resins for chemically and mechanically durable coatings. The difference lies in BEPD’s extended hydrocarbon side chains giving the resin decreased viscosity, improved solubility and enhanced flexibility, all while maintaining excellent weathering performance thanks to the neo-structure. Polyester resins formulated with BEPD improve the properties of the final coating in terms of hardness, stain resistance, MEK resistance and weather resistance.
Polyester resins are versatile binders for various coating applications. In coil coatings they are the industrial standard as binder resins for high performance coatings. The wide choice of alternative building blocks possible in formulating a polyester resin gives resin producers freedom to customize resins with properties that meet the specific demands of paint producers and end users.
