Perstorp’s OCP Debut Highlights Industry Shift Toward Sustainable Liquid Cooling

At this year’s OCP Global Summit in San Jose, industry leaders came together to explore how data centers can meet the rising thermal demands of AI and high-performance computing while reducing environmental impact. A clear takeaway emerged: PFAS-free, biodegradable liquid cooling solutions are moving from innovation to adoption.

Perstorp’s first appearance at the event reflected this transition. With live demonstrations, two expert talks, Perstorp showed how synthetic ester technology is helping the data center industry cool smarter, safer, and more sustainably.

Real-world demonstrations of immersion and cold plate cooling

At the Perstorp booth, attendees experienced two fully operational systems that brought liquid cooling to life:

  • Immersion Cooling:

A demonstration combining Intel’s Superfluid™ technology and an Inventec server operating in Synmerse™ DC, Perstorp’s PFAS-free, biodegradable immersion cooling fluid.

  • Cold Plate Cooling:

A parallel setup showcasing Intel’s Superfluid™ technology paired with Perstorp’s dielectric synthetic cold plate fluid, emphasizing versatility across cooling methods.

Expert insights on performance and sustainability

Perstorp contributed to the OCP conference program through two technical presentations exploring the role of synthetic esters in advancing liquid cooling:

  • “Synthetic Ester Coolants – Powering Safer, More Sustainable and Efficient Data Centers”

    Presented by Logan Tseng

Attendees learned how ester-based fluids can deliver high thermal performance and fire safety in immersion cooling environments.

  • “Revolutionizing Data Center Cooling with Synthetic Esters”

    Presented by Dr. Shubhamita Basu

Examined how ester-based fluids combine dielectric strength, long-term stability, and environmental performance, enabling reliable and responsible thermal management.

Together, the demos highlighted how synthetic ester-based cooling fluids offer critical advantages for next-generation data centers, including dielectric safety, ultra-low viscosity for efficient heat transfer, and readily biodegradable chemistry.

Moving toward a more sustainable cooling future

Perstorp’s participation at OCP underscored the company’s ongoing collaboration with OEMs and data center operators to develop PFAS-free, biodegradable solutions that balance safety, performance, and environmental responsibility.

As data center power densities continue to rise, synthetic ester chemistry offers a viable path toward efficient, reliable, and future-ready cooling.
