Perstorp Master Thesis Intern awarded with first prize at JRC Summer School

Meet Nadia, a passionate scientist who took her Master Thesis Internship at Regulatory Affairs at Perstorp and recently very successfully finalized her Master Thesis, as she recently was honored with the title ‘Excellent Poster Award – 1st place’ at the JRC Summer School 2021.

‘Endocrine disruption’ is an important part of the EU’s chemicals strategy for sustainability towards a toxic-free environment, which aims to highlight and reconcile the societal value of chemicals that doesn´t endanger human health or threaten planetary boundaries. At Perstorp, we recognize the EU’s chemicals strategy as a great opportunity to ensure safe and sustainable chemicals, across the industry.

Already earlier this year, you could meet Nadia Wenske as this year’s celebration of International Day of Women and Girls in Science – sharing her experiences in the fields of STEM and as a Master Thesis Intern at Perstorp Regulatory Affairs. Now Nadia has taken a step closer to fulfill her ambition of a healthier and safer environment for everybody!

Raising the bar for healthy and safe environments

At this year’s JRC Summer School, organized by the European Commission's Joint Research Centre (JRC) and its EU Reference Laboratory for alternatives to animal testing, 140 some students and scientists got together at a digital event dedicated to the topic of Non-animal Approaches in Science.

Nadia was not only elected to present her poster, she also ended up winning the first prize for the best poster enrolled in the program this year! A huge recognition, not only of the great work Nadia has done so far, but also an acknowledgement of the importance and great relevance of assessing chemical products.

“I was extremely surprised that I won the first prize, especially since I did a non-experimental project – proving that a theoretical study can also be of high scientific value and interest. I was also happily surprised by the keen interest in the topic, due to the current relevance and concern, but also due to my findings about securing a better collaboration across the industry to limit animal testing,” Nadia comments.

Plans for the future

Though Nadia now has finalized her Master Thesis and internship here at Perstorp, she will continue her studies in securing toxic-free and safe environments at Regulatory Affairs during the summer.
