Green chemistry – the hidden climate hero
On June 2, Perstorp and Project Air met with stakeholders to discuss the role of the chemical industry for other industries and the green transition.
The panel consisted of:

- Christian Danielsson, Head of the European Commission's Representation in Sweden
- Olle Olsson, Senior Research Fellow at Stockholm Environment Institute, SEI
- Marie Trogstam, Head of Sustainability and Infrastructure at the Confederation of Swedish Enterprise
The discussion revolved around today’s environmental and climate challenges, what needs to be done, what business needs for a successful green transition, and what politics can and should provide. Everyone agreed that there is plenty to do in a short amount of time, that it will require addressing existing conflicts of aims, and that tough choices need to be made.
Perstorp supports other industries’ transitions
Perstorp's products are added at an early stage to many value chains. Therefore, our transition from fossil to renewable materials supports many other industries’ transitions. By providing more sustainable solutions that enable innovation in virtually all industries, Perstorp contributes to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). All Perstorp's fossil products can shift from fossil to renewable.
Project Air is our main transition project
Currently, Project Air is Perstorp’s main transition project. Project Air aims to transform the chemical industry towards climate neutrality, with far-reaching effects throughout industrial value chains. Using circular production methods, Perstorp, and partners Fortum and Uniper, will produce sustainable methanol for chemical manufacturing. This will reduce carbon dioxide emissions by 500,000 tons per year, corresponding to 1 percent of Sweden’s territorial emissions. Read more about Project Air.
The event was held in conjunction with UN’s high-level meeting Stockholm +50, which commemorated the 50th anniversary of the UN’s first environmental conference in Stockholm. The purpose of Stockholm+50 is to accelerate the efforts to achieve the SDGs. Perstorp wants the transition to speed up, and we are prepared to do our part to make it happen. Green chemistry is needed for a fossil-free and sustainable society. One molecule can change everything.
