ProPhorce™ Valerins: a revolutionary new molecule for a new age in animal performance

• Groundbreaking: the last introduction of a new organic acid to be used in feed was decades ago. Valeric acid has never before been tested for commercial production which makes the introduction of ProPhorce™ Valerins one of kind.

The global need to reduce the usage of antibiotics in animal husbandry fuels the search for alternatives. As one of the world’s leading organic acid producers, Perstorp is determined to continue to build and provide knowledge on how SCFA (short chain fatty acids) drive gut health and performance. In 2010 Perstorp took the decision to invest in a broad research program to improve the understanding of modes of action of SCFA’s and their derivatives (e.g. glycerol esters of organic acids). Research has been conducted by specialists in Perstorp’s innovation laboratories together with the Universities of Ghent and Lund and the Southern Poultry Research Group in Athens, USA. The research conducted included an extensive screening of all the SCFA’s available. ProPhorce™ Valerins showed remarkable results especially in broiler diets in the presence of a Clostridium Perfringens challenge.

The commercial introduction of ProPhorce™ Valerins will commence immediately in selected markets and with customers interested in working in close collaboration with Perstorp to further build the competence and knowledge about this new product. The world’s poultry specialists got a first sneak peak of ProPhorce™ Valerins and what value it can bring, when Perstorp introduced its new product at the European Symposium of Poultry Nutrition (ESPN) on May 8th for the first time.
