New fast-drying polyisocyanate from Perstorp reduces coatings drying times up to 50%

Manufactured in Freeport, Texas, Perstorp’s Tolonate® X FD 90 B successfully meets the challenge of increasing drying speed without altering the properties of polyurethane coatings. With chemical reactivity similar to standard HDI derivatives, Tolonate® X FD 90 B produces coatings with remarkable hardness, flexibility, chemical resistance and durability. It is designed for use in high-performance polyurethane paints and varnishes for the automotive, plastics, maintenance, aerospace, marine, wood and general industries.

The significant reduction in drying times generated by Tolonate® X FD 90 B saves energy and time, leading to cost and energy savings during application.

Tolonate® X FD 90 B will be presented to American customers for the first time during the 2010 American Coatings Show in Charlotte, NC, USA.

“This polyisocyanate provides an incredibly fast drying action,” comments Chad Waldschmidt, Americas Business Director for Perstorp. “It allows coating manufacturers to produce non-yellowing two-component polyurethane paints and varnishes that dry quickly, offering their customers new opportunities to improve their productivity during the painting process.”

Isocyanates are used as hardeners in coatings and elastomers in foam products for major markets such as automotive (OEM & refinish), industrial maintenance, plastic & wood coatings, transportation, aerospace, coil & can coatings, leather finishing and adhesives. Perstorp recently announced production increases in its HDI derivatives capacity in Europe and China. Perstorp also manufactures Easaqua™ self-emulsifiable polyisocyanate grades for the crosslinking of waterborne PU coatings, which offer an effective environmentally-friendly alternative to conventional solvent-based coatings. In the near future, Perstorp plans to manufacture the environmentally favorable Easaqua™ range at its Freeport production site.

Perstorp is exhibiting at the American Coatings Show from April 13-15, 2010 in Charlotte, NC, USA (Booth 2733).
