Driving processing, comfort & durability in polyurethane foams

Formulators of polyurethane foams now have the complete portfolio of essential components and specialty additives that they need to tailor and enhance polyurethane formulations and pre-polymers for flexible to rigid and microcellular foams.

The unique properties and virtually endless design possibilities of polyurethane foams have ensured widespread use in end products such as high comfort mattresses and furniture, automotive seating and interiors, suspension equipment, packaging, insulation and microcellular shoe soles. Now, with a complete range of essential building blocks and specialty additives highlighted and explained in a new portfolio brochure, it’s easier than ever for formulators to achieve efficient processing, enhanced comfort and durability in end products.

Essential polyurethane foam components
Essential polyurethane foam components include a complete range of TDI aromatic isocyanate monomers for flexible foams, and IPDI, HDI and Tolonate® aliphatic polyisocyanates for light-stable, non-yellowing foams.

Scuranate® T80, the most reliable TDI grade, and Scuranate® T65, ideal for high load bearing and improved tear resistance, enable flexible foams for applications ranging from automotive seating to furniture and bedding. We are a leading global supplier of TDI and have one of the safest TDI production units in the world, our Pont-de-Claix site in France.

The aliphatic structure of IPDI, HDI and polyisocyanates is ideal for producing durable, non-yellowing foam that stands up to UV light exposure, keeping outdoor and visible foam, looking and performing like new for longer. HDI provides good flexibility while IPDI improves hardness. Tolonate® HDB LV offers a good compromise of viscosity, flexibility, and reactivity, and Tolonate® HDT gives higher rigidity.

Specialty comfort & performance additives
Formulators achieve higher firmness and stability or lower compression set foam by replacing SAN-type co-polymer polyols with Boltorn® dendritic polymer polyols. Boltorn® is also more efficient, which means that a smaller amount is required to formulate desired properties. Boltorn® H311 gives exceptional firmness & stability in flexible foam at very low addition levels, while Boltorn® P500 achieves exceptionally low compression at high firmness when used with graft co-polymer polyols. Low compression set is vital in order to reduce foam density and still meet the comfort specifications of end users.

Rigid foams with Capa® polyols combine toughness and excellent physical properties with high hydrolytic stability. In microcellular foam, Capa® polyols offer good resistance to heat build up and fatigue under dynamic loading, low-temperature flexibility and good wear resistance. This offers added comfort and durability in end products such as shoe soles and suspension equipment. In integral skin products, Capa® polyols enable foams with durable skins for excellent resistance to weathering, solvents and chemicals, and a good combination of heat distortion temperatures and impact strength.

Further, our range of alkoxylated, specialty polyol cross-linkers includes Polyol 3610 and Polyol 4640, which boost hardness while maintaining high resilience in flexible foams.

Competitively priced Robrac® polyester polyols meet market demand for lower cost while securing sufficient performance for rigid foam applications. And MPD (Methyl Propanediol) is ideal for producing high comfort viscoelastic foam such as that used in exclusive high-density foam mattresses.
