Curalite® for powder coatings uncovers fresh markets for customers

Low temperature curing for heat sensitive substrates can easily be achieved with our new Curalite® 2300 powder polyester resin. A new technical information leaflet helps customers get the most out of Curalite®, which clears the way for the use of powder coatings on medium density fi berboard (MDF) and other heat sensitive materials. It also offers formulators the ability to achieve low gloss coatings.

Perstorp - Powder coatings - Environmentally friendly coating - Coatings formulators Curalite® 2300 was developed especially to meet a specific customer need for low temperature (140°C) curing powder coatings and for low gloss hybrid powder coatings. This new product is expected to break new ground in the use of powder coatings on temperature sensitive substrates like MDF and particleboard.

Powder coating is one of the most economical and environmentally friendly coating solutions but has traditionally required high temperatures for curing. This has limited use to metal coatings. The reactivity of Curalite® 2300 allows powder coatings to be cured at lower temperatures uncovering new markets for our customers in coatings for indoor end products such as kitchen cabinets, furniture and other objects made of heat sensitive material.

Curalite® 2300 is the best choice for formulating matte powder coatings as it is a resin that can control gloss. Low gloss coatings are considered to be fashionable and a sign of high quality in many countries and applications.

“Every level of gloss can be achieved with Curalite® 2300,” explains Håkan Björnberg, Perstorp Business Development Director who is responsible for the launch of the new product. “Curalite® was developed to meet the particular customer need of low temperature curing and gloss control.”

One important factor in the expected success of Curalite® 2300, is that coatings formulators and manufacturers can benefit from an environmentally friendly and cost efficient coating solution without investments or major changes.

“Our customers can expand their market into new applications with Curalite® 2300 and their customers do not need to change equipment or production setup in order to benefit,” says Björnberg.

The new technical information leaflet supports customers in their use of Curalite® 2300 and a dedicated development group assists in formulating low temperature and low gloss powder coatings.

“The choice of catalyst, for example, is very important in order to secure the full benefits of Curalite® 2300,” Björnberg points out.

Curalite® 2300 has very high functionality and an exceptional acid number which contributes to the unique product characteristics. Full-scale production is up and running and samples are freely available.
