Materials Technology focuses on complex engineering materials for industrial customers based on our core competencies in thermoset chemistry and fiberreinforced resins. This know-how is developed continuously for new applications, mainly in the automotive, aerospace and construction industries.
Compounds are materials characterized by high strength and heat resistance, and are used primarily for electrical and interior-design products. Perstorp is the world leader in compounds, which are manufactured in Sweden, Italy and the US. A new family of amino thermosets marketed under the Aminel® and Amitec™ brands combines the freedom of design offered by thermoplastics with the excellent electrical and structural properties of thermosets. Polygiene™ is the brand name for a new series of antiviral and antimicrobial molding compounds that can help reduce the spread of diseases in such high-risk public places like hospitals, hotels, restaurants, public transportation, and private residences.
Moldable composites are really tough materials ideally suited to the automotive industry and which command a major share of the global market for engineering phenolics (fiberglass-reinforced phenolic molding compounds). Materials of the Vyntec series are moldable composites with extremely high-performance. Other product types include REFLECTION and INSUL-PLATE epoxy compounds, DAP, and silicone compounds. The operations are managed by Vyncolit, a subsidiary with production facilities in Belgium and the US.
Advanced composites are developed and manufactured by YLA, an American subsidiary. YLA's operations are mainly targeted at the aerospace industry and defense-related products. The company is the technological and market leader in the segment for satellite structures based on carbon-fiber-reinforced composite materials. Resin products are available as adhesive films, MICROPLY™ syntactic films, RTM resins and filament winding resins. A variety of reinforced products (prepregs) are also supplied.
