The Perstorp Group today focuses on a number of carefully defined “niches” – fields in which we offer world-class products andt technology backed by highly professional service-mindedness. One is essential intermediates like aldehydes, alcohols and acids.
Typical products are briefly described below:
Aldehydes: isobutyraldehyde used mainly as an intermediate in the paint industry, but also to produce pharmaceuticals and vitamins. n-Butyraldehyde is used in the production of n-butanol, 2-ethylhexanol and 2-ethylhexanal. And proprionaldehyde is primarily used to manufacture proprionic acid, pharmaceuticals, synthetic flavors and fragrances.
Alcohols: n-Butanol is typically used as a solvent in coatings, resins and dyes, and as an extractant. 2-Ethylhexanol (2-EH) is involved with phthalic anhydride in esterification to produce the general purpose plasticizer dioctyl phthalate (DOP). Isobutanol is used as a solvent in coatings, resins and dyes, and as an extractant. n-propanol is used as a solvent in coatings and inks, and as an intermediate in the propylamine, esters and fine chemicals segments.
Acids: 2-Ethylhexanoic Acid (2-EHA) is an important raw material for many products, such as specialty plasticizers and synthetic lubricants. Phthalic anhydride is an important intermediate used mainly to produce phthalates for PVC applications, unsaturated polyesters, and alkyd resins used in the coatings industry. Propionic acid is used to preserve animal feed and grain, as well as baked products and cheese. Formic acid is a silage agent that maintains the nutritive value of feed.
