Discover Voxtar™, world’s first renewable pentaerythritol platform, and more Perstorp sustainable solutions

Perstorp showcases Voxtar™, the world’s first and only renewable pentaerythritol platform alongside its latest high-performance, low-impact developments and solutions at the European Coatings Show 2011 in Nuremburg, Germany.

Launched by Perstorp in 2010, Voxtar™ is based on renewable raw materials and energy. It is a prime example of the company’s efforts to reduce emissions and energy consumption associated to raw material manufacturing by using renewable raw materials such as bio methanol to decrease the use of petrochemical raw materials.

Voxtar™ cuts carbon footprint by up to 75% compared to conventional fossil-based Penta and Di-Penta, while providing identical properties and performance. For formulators and producers working in applications including high performance alkyd paints and coatings, synthetic lubricants, cosmetic emollients, adhesives, and printing inks, this means capitalizing on the growing demand for renewable alternatives.

For paint and coatings formulations Voxtar™ sets a new benchmark in environmentally sound, high performance paints. Combining the renewability of Voxtar™ with the latest waterborne technology significantly shrinks the carbon footprint of high-solid alkyd paints and alkyd emulsion paints compared to traditional petroleum-based latex paints.

“Voxtar™ makes it ingeniously simple for our customers to cut their environmental impact, differentiate their offering, and demonstrates commitment to their customers’ success,” says Vice President Penta & Formates, Ulrika Andersson. “Proven reductions in carbon footprint can give our customers a clear advantage over competitors and even a potential savings on carbon emission credits.”

Voxtar™ is one of many new solutions and products offered by the company that contribute to sustainable performance.

Perstorp’s approach to innovation is driven by sustainability on three fronts  – through reducing emissions and energy consumption in raw material manufacturing; through the innovation of new products that enable customers to formulate low-impact solutions; and through high-performance additives that enable more durable, and long-lasting end products.

“Our strategy is to manufacture quality products. But we also develop alternative low-impact technologies, which will take market share from traditional products,” comments Perstorp President and CEO Martin Lundin. “We believe this trend is partly linked to more stringent regulations concerning emissions of volatile organic compounds (VOCs) but also due to a new attitude through the entire value chain.”
