SOS Children's Village runs ten Children's Villages in China, one of them, Nanchang, will be sponsored by Perstorp over the next three years. The Nanchang Children's Village has 126 children, all attending nursery, primary and secondary schools. It is the investment in education that has encouraged Perstorp to invest in the project.
"The investment in humanitarian sponsorship is part of our Code of Conduct, based on the UN's Global Compact initiative," explains Human Resources manager Martin Lundin. "Because we intend to establish ourselves in China it seems only natural to make a contribution to society and show that we care about social development at a local level."
It's hoped that students at Perstorp High School will be able to set up an exchange scheme and do their studies abroad in the Children's Village with Chinese children. Only time will tell how this cooperation will evolve.
