Polyurethane technology is widely used in the formulations of wood coatings. Applications range from paints and varnishes for outdoor use (joinery: window frames and doors), through clearcoats for wood furniture, to finishing of parquet flooring and wooden interior components of cars.
Solvent-based wood coatings are more and more being replaced by waterborne formulations, which are safer and more pleasant to apply for the end-users because they do not contain aggressive solvents with very strong smell.
Two-component waterborne coatings have been increasingly used, especially for wood parquet flooring, kitchen units and office furniture. These formulations show very good weathering (no yellowing under UV light) and appearance, good chemical and abrasion resistance and fast drying when they are properly formulated.
